HME NEXEO | HDX.

NEXEO|HDX is HME's current-generation digital drive-thru platform — HD wideband audio, an all-in-one headset (the HS7000 family), and a base station that handles single or dual lane depending on configuration. If you're buying new, this is what most national brands have standardized on. If you already have it, this page covers what usually goes wrong and what actually fixes it.

Is This Your System?

How to tell you have NEXEO | HDX.

All-in-one headset, no belt pac

NEXEO headsets are a single unit worn on the head. If your crew wears a separate belt-worn transmitter, you have an older platform — check ion|IQ or EOS.

BAT70 battery

NEXEO uses the BAT70. If the battery in your charger says BAT50, you are not on NEXEO.

AC70 charger

Four-port charger sized for BAT70. The AC50 will not charge a BAT70.

Base station labeled NEXEO|HDX

Model numbers generally begin with C50000-. CORE, PRO, and brand-specific builds all share the NEXEO base.

Troubleshooting

What usually goes wrong.

Written by techs who work on these every week. Start at the top — the order matters, because the cheap causes are also the most common ones.

Headset won't hold a charge through a shift

Almost always the battery, not the headset. BAT70 cells degrade with cycle count, and a battery two or three years into daily use will read as charged and then collapse under load. Swap in a known-good battery and run a full shift before you consider anything else. If a fresh BAT70 also dies early, check the charger next — a failing port will report a full charge that isn't.

Audio cutting out or dropping mid-order

Work it in this order: battery, then interference, then antenna and base. A weak battery causes dropouts before it causes a dead headset, so that's first. Interference is second — new WiFi access points, a new microwave, LED sign drivers, or a neighboring store's system can all land on top of you, and the tell is that dropouts cluster at certain times of day. Only after those two should you suspect the base station or its antenna connection.

Customer can't hear the crew, or crew can't hear the customer

This is usually the order point, not the headset — and the fastest way to confirm it is to check whether the problem follows one headset or affects all of them. If every headset has it, the issue is at the speaker post: the SS7000 speaker, the DM5 microphone, or water in the enclosure. Speaker post audio degrades gradually, so crews often normalize a problem that's been getting worse for months.

Lane doesn't detect cars

Vehicle detection is a separate system from your headsets, and it fails independently. Either the loop in the pavement has broken — common after a freeze/thaw cycle or resurfacing — or the detector board has failed. A loop break usually means no detection at all; an intermittent detector board gives you cars that register sometimes.

Ear pads worn or uncomfortable

Cheapest fix on the entire lane and the one most operators skip. Worn pads change how the headset sits, which changes mic position, which quietly degrades audio for the customer. Replace them on a schedule rather than waiting for complaints.

Common Questions

NEXEO | HDX questions.

What battery does the HME NEXEO headset use?

The NEXEO|HDX headset uses the BAT70 battery, charged with the AC70 charger. The older BAT50 and AC50 from EOS and ion|IQ systems are not compatible with NEXEO.

Can I use my old EOS headsets with a NEXEO base station?

No. NEXEO|HDX is a different platform and EOS|HD headsets are not compatible with a NEXEO base station. Moving to NEXEO means replacing the headsets along with the base.

Where can I find the HME NEXEO user manual?

HME publishes official NEXEO documentation on its support site. Tech Chefs is an authorized HME dealer and can also walk you through setup or troubleshooting directly at 972-901-9948.

How long should a BAT70 battery last?

Runtime depends on age and cycle count rather than a fixed number of hours. A battery that no longer holds a full shift is at end of life, and replacing it is far cheaper than diagnosing it as a headset fault.
