Ordering HME headset batteries and staring at "BAT70" and "BAT50" wondering which one you actually need? Here's the fast answer, then a few things worth knowing so you don't run a lane down at rush.
The quick answer โ match the battery to your headset system
- BAT70 โ for NEXEO | HDX headsets (HME's current flagship platform).
- BAT50 โ for EOS | HD and ION | IQ headsets (HS6100 / 6200 / 6300 family).
They are not interchangeable. A BAT50 won't run a NEXEO headset and a BAT70 won't run an EOS or ION headset. If you're not sure which system you have, check the headset model or your base station โ or call us and we'll identify it in a minute.
Not sure which system you're on?
Two quick tells: NEXEO | HDX is HME's newest all-in-one platform (newer installs, newest features) and uses BAT70. If your store has been running the same headsets for years and they're labeled EOS, ION, HS6200, or similar, you're almost certainly on BAT50. Still unsure? Send us a photo of the headset or the base station model number and we'll confirm the right battery.
How many spare batteries should you actually stock?
The most common reason a drive-thru lane goes quiet isn't a broken headset โ it's a dead battery with no charged spare ready. A good rule of thumb:
- Keep at least one charged spare per active headset, plus a couple extra for peak shifts.
- Rotate batteries through the charger every shift so you always start busy periods with full packs.
- Label and retire tired batteries โ a pack that only holds a half-shift is costing you speed, not saving you money.
When to replace instead of recharge
Rechargeable batteries wear out. If a battery no longer lasts a full shift, takes noticeably longer to charge, or dies unpredictably, it's done. At roughly $40โ$50 for a genuine BAT50 or BAT70, replacing a worn pack is far cheaper than a slow lane or a frustrated crew during your busiest hour.
Why genuine HME batteries matter
Third-party and "compatible" batteries are a leading cause of short run-time, charging problems, and headset faults. Genuine HME BAT50 and BAT70 packs are built to spec, work correctly with HME chargers and headsets, and are backed by the manufacturer. As an authorized HME dealer, we only sell the real thing.
